OVERVIEW

Real Estate SOLID FOUNDATION

Our attorneys provide comprehensive legal counsel to individuals and large and small businesses on virtually all areas of real estate law — from rezoning and land use, to financing and project development, to organizing owner associations and building standards, to the leasing, sale and/or tax free exchange of real property.

Barnes & Thornburg can help take a parcel of land from initial purchase, through the completion of even the most extensive real estate development project. We represent developers of virtually all sizes, across the country and on national, regional and local levels in connection with a panoply of real estate transactions.

Our start-to-finish experience includes multifamily and single family developments, hotels, student housing, event centers, medical offices and hospitals, and nearly every other form of commercial property imaginable. We also provide effective landlord-focused leasing counsel for office, commercial and retail properties, as well as lease enforcement and advocacy in state and federal court.

Our firm represents institutional lenders in connection with sophisticated real estate finance transactions, as well as offers a strong opinion practice for borrowers and lenders alike in connection with complex financing and other transactions involving real and personal property. We are also experienced in enforcing the rights of secured parties through foreclosure and the exercise of other remedies available under applicable law.

Our tax credit financing practice is widespread, with clients that include investors, syndicators, developers and financial institutions. Notably, our team has national capability and skill in negotiating and closing major transactions involving low income housing, new markets and historic tax credits.

Regardless of the matter at hand, our attorneys are dedicated to rendering smart and efficient real estate law counsel that is distinct from our peers, particularly because we staff matters leanly. Our philosophy of practicality and trustworthiness and our dedication to cultivating close working relationships with those we serve permeates everything we do.
