Nicholas A. Galbraith is an associate in Barnes & Thornburg's Washington, D.C., office and is a member of the Corporate Department and International Trade Practice Group.

Nicholas advises domestic and international clients on a wide range of complex trade matters. His experience in export controls and economic sanctions includes drafting and revising compliance policies and procedures to meet the demands of an ever-shifting regulatory environment; assisting clients with export classifications; obtaining licenses from regulatory authorities and pursuing petitions for delisting from the Office of Foreign Assets Control's (OFAC) sanctions lists; assisting clients with disclosures of potential violations to relevant authorities; and otherwise counseling clients on the effects of economic sanctions (e.g., Iran, Russia/Ukraine), among other matters.

In addition, he counsels clients on trade-related aspects of mergers and acquisitions, including voluntary filings before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and mandatory notifications to Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC). He also advises clients on customs regulations, trade remedy actions, and U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act compliance.

Prior to rejoining Barnes & Thornburg in 2017, Nicholas gained legal experience at the firm working in administrative positions prior to law school and as a law clerk during law school. Following law school, he was an associate practicing international trade law at another Washington, D.C., law firm.

During law school, Nicholas served as a legal intern with the Humane Society of the United States.
