Damon R. Leichty, a partner in the Litigation Department of Barnes & Thornburg, has represented clients in commercial and product litigation in more than 25 federal and state jurisdictions across the United States. With broad experience in all manner of legal proceedings, he regularly counsels manufacturers on product liability, litigation avoidance, non-competition and other contracts, public relations, marketing, warranties, and various strategies to manage business risk and to develop and defend good products. Damon's engagements, both regional and national, have spanned publicly traded Fortune 500/Global 500 companies to private businesses, and clients in the United States, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Germany.
Damon also has represented businesses, shareholders, partnerships, governmental institutions, and universities on a full range of corporate and business litigation. Having worked for the University Counsel's Office at Indiana University, Damon has counseled universities in litigation, employment, student affairs, public records, construction, and other higher education issues. He is a member of the firm's Higher Education Practice Group.
A regular practitioner in federal court, Damon routinely advises on federal practice and procedure and has presented on this subject. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Notre Dame Law School, teaching product liability.
Damon served as law clerk to the Honorable Robert L. Miller, Jr., of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana and on the Federal Local Rules Advisory Committee for the Northern District of Indiana. From 2013-2017, he was recognized on the Indiana Super Lawyers list by Super Lawyers magazine, having been named a Rising Star twice before by the publication.
While at Indiana University Maurer School of Law, he won the school's Sherman Minton Moot Court competition and served as a law journal editor. Damon also had the privilege to argue before U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and others in 'The Court-Martial of Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer,' a mock trial broadcast on C-SPAN and later memorialized in a book published by Indiana University.
Damon is a proud husband and father of two children.
