MINNEAPOLIS – Barnes & Thornburg has added Patrick Gallagher as a partner in the Intellectual Property Department in Minneapolis. Gallagher joins the firm’s expanded IP practice after the December hiring of 10 lawyers in the firm’s Life Sciences practice.

“Patrick has represented companies from all over the world and he is another great addition to our growing IP capabilities,” said Julia Gard, Barnes & Thornburg’s chair of the Intellectual Property Department. “Lawyers like Patrick strengthen our firm’s ability to serve some of the world’s leading innovators as they cultivate and nourish their ideas and intellectual property.”

Gallagher joins Barnes & Thornburg with a wide array of experience in trademark and copyright issues, including trademark clearance, investigation, prosecution, client counseling, and management of client’s domestic and international trademark portfolios. Having worked with clients of all sizes in numerous industries, Gallagher has successfully advised on brand and product launches, as well as acquisitions and divestures, worth hundreds of millions of dollars and has experience with sophisticated IP and false advertising disputes and litigation; internet domain name disputes and proceedings; disputes involving social media, trademark due diligence and licensing; copyright counseling, registration, protection and litigation; and Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notice and takedown procedures.

“Patrick’s substantial experience makes him a great addition to our growing firmwide IP team – but also to the strong talent we’re adding here in Minneapolis,” said Connie Lahn, Barnes & Thornburg’s Minneapolis office managing partner. “Patrick has deep roots in the area and a strong reputation, making him an excellent addition to the office and to the culture we’ve built since the office opened a decade ago.”

Gallagher earned his J.D., cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law and his B.A. from Hamline University.

With more than 600 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country.
