OVERVIEW

Doug Haloftis represents publicly traded corporations, private-equity firms and high net worth individuals in a broad range of employment, fiduciary, public reporting and litigation matters. Appreciated for his dedication to professionalism, ability to listen and clear communication skills, Doug works with clients to identify the risks inherent in their case, and then design a strategy that focuses on achieving their objectives.

Doug’s practice involves a mix of courtroom work in appropriate cases and service as a trusted legal adviser to management, corporate boards, plan fiduciaries, insurers and executives covering a broad spectrum of employment law and employment- and benefits-related litigation matters, SEC inquiry and enforcement actions, fiduciary duty concerns, benefit-related agreements, and deferred compensation and non-competition concerns. With 30 years of experience, Doug concentrates his practice on a wide range of labor and employment issues.

Doug has represented corporations, officers and directors in SEC-related investigations and shareholder litigation. He has handled hundreds of employment, fiduciary, contract and benefits-related lawsuits; served as panel, coverage and/or monitoring counsel for major insurance carriers; and tried more than 25 cases to verdict.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Doug acted as an external general counsel. In that role, Doug led a corporate legal team for the acquisition of a publicly traded company, was responsible for all aspects of M&A employment law issues, advised on benefits and deferred compensation issues and arrangements, negotiated and prepared stock and asset purchase agreements, and advised sales, finance and business teams concerning contractual rights and obligations.
