Barnes & Thornburg Continues IP Growth in Dallas With Addition of William Li

DALLAS – Barnes & Thornburg announced today that William Li has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property Department in Dallas as a partner. The addition of Li closely follows that of IP partner Robert Hilton, who joined the Dallas office in early 2023.

Li focuses his practice on technology transactions and patent prosecution and litigation. In addition to general intellectual property counseling, he has experience drafting and prosecuting patents across the software, electrical, and mechanical patent arts, including wireless and network communications, mobile applications, social networking, cloud computing, and data encryption.

“As technology continues to evolve rapidly, we’re excited to welcome William to our team and to benefit from his deep knowledge and experience in this sector,” said Julia Gard, chair of Barnes & Thornburg’s Intellectual Property Department. “William is a talented lawyer with a strong tech background, and our clients will benefit from his guidance.”

In addition to his work in technology IP, Li’s practice focuses on assisting in patent litigation matters, including performing infringement and invalidity analyses and claim construction. He also helps clients build and manage their intellectual property portfolios.

“We’re thrilled to welcome William as our newest addition here in Dallas, a city quickly growing in prominence as a tech hub,” said Victor Vital, managing partner of Barnes & Thornburg’s Dallas office. “IP has been a strategic area of focus for the Dallas office, and we’re excited to attract top-tier talent like William.”

Li received his B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in electrical engineering and his J.D. from Loyola Law School Los Angeles.

With more than 800 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from offices in Atlanta, Boston, California, Chicago, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Philadelphia, Raleigh, Salt Lake City, South Florida, Texas, and Washington, D.C.
