Former Hillenbrand Counsel Tabitha Meier Joins Barnes & Thornburg

INDIANAPOLIS – Tabitha Meier, a former in-house counsel at Hillenbrand, Inc., has joined Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Indianapolis office as a partner in the Litigation Department.

Meier will represent a variety of national and international clients, advising them on the development and deployment of effective compliance programs in their businesses, including risk assessment, training, policies, procedures and investigations.

As compliance counsel at Hillenbrand, Meier developed and led the global diversified industrial company's anti-corruption, business ethics, trade control, international data privacy, and conflict minerals compliance activities and protocols; conducted internal investigations; and was responsible for advising executive management and the board of directors on compliance matters. Meier also developed and oversaw the overall compliance function; provided training and legal advice to employees at all levels of the company; handled compliance M&A due diligence; and delivered international compliance support, advice and leadership in many countries, including the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, Italy, China, Russia and India.

“We are excited to attract someone with Tabitha’s experience and credentials to Barnes & Thornburg,” said Brian L. Burdick, Indianapolis office managing partner. “Like many of the lateral attorneys we have welcomed over the last several years, Tabitha brings a unique perspective as an in-house lawyer that can be of great benefit to our clients.”

Active in the Indianapolis community, Meier is a board member of the Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center, a hospitality volunteer with the International Center of Indianapolis and a past board member of the Indiana Youth Institute.

In addition to being admitted to practice in the state of Indiana, Meier is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.

Meier earned her law degree, magna cum laude, from the Indiana University McKinney School of Law in 2008 and holds a master’s of business administration from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. She is also a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP).
