The Japan American Society of Indiana presented “Japan Update Conference 2019,” on March 19 at the Alexander Hotel in Indianapolis. Among the notable attendees, Takehiro Shimada, Minister of Public Affairs, Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C., and Ted Saeger, Acting Director, Office of Japanese Affairs, U.S. Department of State, were guest speakers and panelists. As Honorary Consul of Japan in Indianapolis and secretary of the Japanese American Society of Indiana board, Pete Morse of the Indianapolis office emceed the entire conference. David Spooner of the Washington, D.C., office spoke about U.S. trade policy and tariffs and their economic impacts, along with Bernard Swiecki, Director of the Automotive Communities Partnership, Center for Automotive Research. More than 100 people attended the event, including Michael McCrory and Hide Niiyama of the Indianapolis office.
