Three Attorneys Join Barnes & Thornburg’s Indianapolis Office

INDIANAPOLIS – Sarah Harrell, Kate Jung and Brittany Smith recently joined Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Intellectual Property Department as staff attorneys in the Indianapolis office.

Harrell’s primary focus is trademark law. Previously, she was an intellectual property intern with the Indianapolis Museum of Art and CMG Worldwide. She was also a judicial extern for the Honorable Jane Magnus Stinson with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and a law clerk with the Indiana Attorney General’s Office. Harrell earned her J.D. and a graduate certificate in Intellectual Property Law from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.

Jung focuses her practice on preparing and prosecuting patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Before joining Barnes & Thornburg, she conducted prior art searches and draft patentability opinion letters for inventors and drafted non-provisional patent applications and prepared responses to office actions for the Advanced Patent Clinic at The John Marshall Law School. She also has experience preparing responses to office actions from USPTO, Canadian Intellectual Property Office, and the European Patent Office; conducting prior art searches using published patents and scientific journals; and drafting memoranda regarding patentability, validity and infringement.

Smith focuses her practice primarily on trademark law. She is a former legal assistant with USA Track and Field and interned with the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Athletics Department and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Smith earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
