Barnes & Thornburg Continues Expansion of Minneapolis Office with Addition of Public Finance Attorney Ben Johnson

MINNEAPOLIS – Barnes & Thornburg LLP announced today that Benjamin W. Johnson has joined the firm’s Governmental Services & Finance Department as a partner in the Minneapolis office. Previously, Johnson was a shareholder of Kennedy & Graven, Chartered, in its Public Finance practice.

Johnson concentrates his practice on municipal finance with an emphasis on revenue bond work for cities, counties, underwriters, and banks. He advises such clients in all aspects of public finance relating to the issuance of revenue bonds, general obligation bonds, tax increment financing and other financing matters.

Johnson has experience with charter schools and multi-family housing financings with tax exempt bonds. He also acts as bond counsel for local units of government in Minnesota and Montana and has represented underwriters and purchasers of municipal bonds in transactions throughout the United States.

Johnson’s arrival comes on the heels of the addition of bankruptcy and creditors’ rights attorney Connie Lahn, who joined the Minneapolis office in June. The firm’s Minneapolis office now has over 50 legal professionals focusing on matters in a variety of key legal areas, including complex litigation; commercial real estate; corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions; ESOPs/employee and executive benefits; employment law; finance, insolvency and restructuring; intellectual property; and private wealth services, among others.

Johnson is admitted to practice in Minnesota and Montana. He is an active member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, Minnesota State Bar Association, Montana State Bar Association and Hennepin County Bar Association.

Johnson earned his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School. He earned his bachelor’s degree, with highest honors, in history from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.
