Barnes & Thornburg’s Columbus Office Celebrates 10 Years

COLUMBUS – Barnes & Thornburg is proud to recognize the 10th anniversary of the opening of its Columbus office, which has grown from two labor and employment practitioners to 24 lawyers across most of the firm’s practice areas – real estate, business litigation, government services, healthcare, creditors’ rights, healthcare, and mergers and acquisitions.

The office is housed in space designed by its team on the 33rd floor of Huntington Center, overlooking the Ohio Statehouse and miles beyond. The sweeping views and open space in the center of the vibrant city were designed to reflect the office’s culture of inclusivity and the energy each employee brings to their work and the firm.

“We opened in the wake of the global financial crisis, reflecting the firm’s confidence and bold decision-making.  We are pleased but not surprised to have grown in all respects over the past decade,” said Bill Nolan, Columbus managing partner since its opening. “We’re proud of our work in Columbus and we’ve been fortunate to be a small part of the city’s exciting growth. We’ve built a talented, collegial and purpose-driven team that gets me excited to come into the office every single day.”

Columbus teammates have leadership roles and have developed partnerships with a range of organizations vital to the community, including the Columbus Metropolitan Club, United Way, Columbus Young Professionals, Gender Equity in the Legal Industry (GELI), Mid-Ohio Foodbank, the Association of Legal Administrators, Women Lawyers of Franklin County, and the Columbus Bar Association Managing Partners’ Diversity Initiative. The office started what has grown into Gender Equity in the Legal Industry (GELI), a unique collaboration among law firms fostering vibrant conversation on pressing diversity and inclusion issues.  Columbus Young Professionals has recognized the office as a Wonderful Workplace for Young Professionals six years running.

“The relationships we’ve built in 10 years here are truly remarkable,” said Kelly Atkinson, Columbus office administrator and the firm’s diversity and inclusion coordinator. “We love to provide opportunities and encourage our employees to participate in local causes they feel good about while also giving back to the community that has helped us be successful.”

With more than 600 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from offices in Atlanta, California, Chicago, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan, Minneapolis, Ohio, Texas and Washington, D.C.
