Michael Carrillo Named to Crain’s Chicago Business’ 2019 Notable Minorities in Accounting, Consulting & Law List

CHICAGO – Barnes & Thornburg’s Michael A. Carrillo has been named to the Crain’s 2019 Notable Minorities in Accounting, Consulting & Law list. 

Carrillo is among 56 Chicago-area featured professionals, from accountants and consultants to lawyers, all at the top of their fields who have shown the ability or power to effect change in their role or area of practice, serve as a role model or mentor, and have assumed a leadership positions in their communities.

In 2018, Carrillo was also recognized by Crain’s in the publication’s 2018 Notable Minority Lawyers list for advancing the causes of justice and equality through his practice and community involvement. 

Carrillo is the managing partner of the firm’s Chicago office and serves as legal counsel to companies large and small on intellectual property and corporate law matters. He advises clients on patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret matters, as well as on foreign and domestic patent and trademark protection. Specifically, he navigates clients through and beyond developing, managing and policing small and large IP portfolios, creating practical strategies that leverage their assets while safeguarding their bottom line. Carrillo has successfully lead teams in patent and trademark cases before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and a number of federal courts. He also has an expertise in preparing and negotiating software and technology licenses.

Outside of his practice, Carrillo is treasurer on the board of the Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois, where he mentors law students and raises funds for scholarships.
