Climate Change Law Firm
OVERVIEW

Climate Change

Climate change is a major topic of discussion today, with the potential to affect all areas of business and industry, and municipalities as well. Barnes & Thornburg's Climate Change Practice Group provides information and resources to clients on the development of local, state, regional and federal initiatives that deal with climate change issues, and helps clients assess how potential regulations can affect businesses.

Barnes & Thornburg's Climate Change Practice Group consists of a number of attorneys from multiple disciplines, including environmental law, government services, intellectual property, construction, and business. They all have distinct legal backgrounds that help them assist clients with their climate change needs.

Environmental attorneys at Barnes & Thornburg work with clients to determine how climate change may implicate air, water, and other areas of concern. For example, the firm's national water practice attorneys have advised a number of municipalities, including in the Northeast and Northwest United States, on the adoption of wastewater discharge requirements that may have climate change implications.

The firm's intellectual property attorneys counsel clients on carbon sequestration and other clean emission and modeling technologies. Attorneys also work with clients who are engaged in clearing and protecting trademarks to develop branding around green and sustainable products and services.

The firm's lobbying group monitors key state and federal legislation related to climate change in an effort to keep clients informed of important developments. They also represent our clients- interests before federal, state and local governments as they relate to climate change issues.

Businesses may also need assistance in reporting to the federal government and other key stakeholders about their policies. Barnes & Thornburg attorneys work with clients to report on carbon risk in SEC filings and shareholder statements and to assist them with international carbon trading. Attorneys also have experience in dealing with in-place carbon accounting systems and sequestration strategies.

Additionally, attorneys in the firm's Construction Law Practice Group have experience with LEED projects and certification. Our construction attorneys recently assisted a residential developer client in the acquisition of property as well as other issues related to developing a green community.
