WILMINGTON, Del. – Barnes & Thornburg LLP has added Thomas E. Hanson, Jr. to its Wilmington, Delaware, office as a partner in the Litigation Department. Hanson joins from Morris James LLP.

Hanson focuses on corporate and complex commercial litigation involving mid- to large-sized companies. He frequently litigates in the Delaware courts, including the Delaware Court of Chancery, the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware and the Complex Commercial Litigation Division of the Delaware Superior Court. He represents clients in a variety of business law disputes and advises on matters such as corporate governance, breaches of contract (including purchase and sale agreements), fiduciary duties, limited liability company agreements, trade secret protection and restrictive covenants.

“Tom is a relentless advocate for his clients. He’s not only a talented litigator, but he’s also known to immerse himself in his clients’ business to achieve optimal outcomes,” said William M. McErlean, chair of the firm’s Litigation Department. “We’re excited to welcome him to the firm.”

In his 20-plus years of practice, Hanson has achieved successful outcomes for major Delaware corporations. Notably, as lead counsel, he recently secured a defense jury verdict in a breach of contract action involving a claim for $15 million in damages.

“Tom is a trusted adviser, has a deep understanding of Delaware law and is well-respected in the legal community,” said David Powlen, managing partner of the firm’s Wilmington office. “He’s an outstanding addition to our office, with first-chair capabilities and experience before several of the important courts in Delaware."

Hanson serves on the Delaware Community Foundation Board, the Executive Committee of the First State Community Loan Fund, and the Salvation Army Regional Advisory Board. He is also a member of the Delaware Diverse Law Partners Network.

Hanson earned his J.D. from Boston College Law School and his B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.
