Veteran Real Estate Lawyer Joins Barnes & Thornburg

Barnes & Thornburg LLP is adding depth to its Real Estate Department with the addition of Joseph D. Calderon as a partner in the firm’s Indianapolis office.

Calderon, who previously worked at Bose McKinney & Evans LLP, has spent more than 25 years representing real estate developers, tenants and end-users of real estate, business owners, individuals, nonprofits and governmental agencies in a wide range of real estate matters. He advises on and manages zoning, development, leasing and property tax issues, having handled hundreds of zoning cases, property tax assessment appeals and real estate transactions.

“We are excited to have Joe join Barnes & Thornburg because of the wealth of experience he possesses in the real estate field,” said Brian L. Burdick, Indianapolis office managing partner. “We look forward to working with him and for the boost he will give to our thriving real estate practice and the clients it serves.”

During his legal career, Calderon has received many accolades. Since 2010, Calderon has been recognized on The Best Lawyers in America list, where he was named a Land Use and Zoning Lawyer of the Year in 2013. He is also rated "AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rated," the top rating for professional skill and ethics, by his peers as listed in Martindale-Hubbell®.

After earning his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in 1982, Calderon earned his law degree from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1989.

He is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.

With more than 600 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from 13 offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Delaware, Indiana, Los Angeles, Michigan, Minneapolis, Ohio and Washington, D.C.
