Roy A. Ginsburg is a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Minneapolis, Minnesota, office and a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Law Department.
Mr. Ginsburg has represented private and public companies for more than 30 years in employment and commercial litigation within his national practice. He has litigation experience in various employment law disputes, including trade secret misappropriation, usurpation of corporate opportunity, corporate raiding, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of employment-related contracts, such as restrictive covenants and non-competes. Mr. Ginsburg has also defended numerous employment discrimination claims, including sexual harassment, age, disability, race and gender discrimination, and is well-versed in handling both class and multi-party litigation. In addition, he has experience both with respect to advising clients on FLSA and state wage and hour issues, and defending FLSA and wage and hour litigation.
Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Mr. Ginsburg was a partner at Dorsey & Whitney LLP, serving in the firm’s Advocacy Group and Labor & Employment Law Department. For more than 20 years, he also served in the firm’s Trial Department, handling a wide variety of commercial litigation.
Mr. Ginsburg has received numerous honors and awards, including being named a recipient of a 2013 Client Choice Award, which recognizes leading lawyers and law firms for excellence in client service. Announced on Feb. 27, 2013, the award winners were selected through a corporate counsel survey and in-depth interviews to identify individuals who “stand apart for the excellent client care they provide. Likewise, Minnesota Lawyer magazine twice named Mr. Ginsburg “Attorney of the Year” (2006 and 2011). He is a mainstay on several prestigious lists as a result of client and peer feedback, including Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2004-2012), Best Lawyers in America (2012-2014) The Legal 500, and has been recognized by Super Lawyers regularly since 2003, including 2011, 2012 and 2013.
As a frequent author, Mr. Ginsburg has been honored by Lexology as 2010 “Author of the Year” in both the overall and labor and employment categories. He also regularly speaks before CLE groups and clients on numerous employment topics.
Mr. Ginsburg is a member of the American Bar Association (Litigation Section and Labor and Employment Law Section), the Minnesota Bar Association and the Hennepin County Bar Association (Litigation Section and Labor & Employment Law Section). He is admitted to practice in Minnesota, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Seventh and Eighth Circuits, the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota and various other federal courts.
Mr. Ginsburg earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1980 and his B.A. from Carleton College, magna cum laude, in 1975.
