Liz Lopez, an attorney in Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Washington, D.C., office, has been selected to join a team of bipartisan U.S. dignitaries chosen by the U.S. Department of State to participate in its international outreach program surrounding the 2012 Presidential Elections and the U.S. Electoral Process.
Ms. Lopez was awarded a U.S. Speaker & Specialist Grant by the Department’s Bureau of International Information Programs and will travel to Ecuador and Paraguay. She will share her perspective as a Democratic strategist during meetings, presentations, and press conferences scheduled for Sept. 23 - Oct. 3, 2012.
“I am honored to participate in a program that engages international audiences in a discussion of the U.S. democratic political process and election system,” said Ms. Lopez.
As a member of the firm’s Governmental Services Department, Ms. Lopez represents clients before the legislative and executive branches of the federal government and conducts outreach to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC). She is a prominent Democratic strategist and frequent speaker on economic and election issues, including the increasing role of the Latino electorate in the U.S. She has been featured on national political shows on radio and television, including BBC, CNN, CNN en Español, NBC, Univision, and Telemundo.
Ms. Lopez has more than 10 years of public and private sector experience serving as a prosecutor and counsel to Fortune 500 companies. She has also been recognized as a national leader and selected as one of 15 Hispanic leaders nationwide for a fellowship program sponsored by the Fundacion Carolina; as one in 50 lawyers selected to participate in the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Latina Executive Leadership Program; and an American Bar Association (ABA) diversity fellow scholar.
