Mark R. Owens, a partner in the Indianapolis and Delaware offices of Barnes & Thornburg, is the chair of the Finance, Insolvency and Restructuring Department and chair of the Motorsports Practice Group. He is also a member of the Corporate Department.

Mr. Owens’ practice includes business, commercial, bankruptcy, and creditors’ rights issues, including workouts and loan restructurings; representation of secured and unsecured creditors, creditors’ committees, preference and fraudulent transfer defendants, lessors and landlords in bankruptcy cases; repossessions and general collections; and Uniform Commercial Code issues. He has experience with various commercial issues and has been involved in commercial litigation in numerous courts throughout the country, including in the federal courts in the District of Delaware and Southern District of New York and in various state courts in Indiana, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

As chair of the Motorsports Practice Group, which is comprised of approximately 36 attorneys throughout the country, Mr. Owens works with clients in matters concerning inter alia; contracts; licensing; labor and employment; immigration; intellectual property; media, vendor and sponsor Issues; corporate and regulatory issues; tax and wealth management; litigation; antitrust; project financing and economic incentives; real estate; creditors’ rights; and aviation.

In 1999, Mr. Owens earned his J.D., cum laude, from Widener University School of Law, where he served two years on the Widener Journal of Public Law, including one year as internal editor. He also received a M.Ed. from Bloomsburg University in 1999 and a B.B.A., magna cum laude, from Wilkes University in 1995.

Mr. Owens served as a law clerk to the Honorable John J. Thomas of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Owens is licensed to practice in the states of Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware; and is also admitted before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuits; and U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, Middle and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania, District of New Jersey, District of Delaware, and Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Indianapolis Bar Association.
