Mark A. Hagedorn is a partner in the Chicago office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP and a member of the Intellectual Property Department. He concentrates his practice on a wide range of intellectual property matters, including patent, trademark, and copyright solicitation and intellectual property litigation, licensing, and counseling.

Since 2015, Mr. Hagedorn has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for his work in patent law.  

Mr. Hagedorn received his B.S. in chemical engineering from Purdue University and his J.D. from Indiana University School of Law–Bloomington, where he also worked with the university’s trademark office. He presently serves as a member of the Indiana University School of Law Intellectual Property Advisory Board assisting his alma mater in maintaining a strong intellectual property curriculum.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Mr. Hagedorn was associate counsel at Velsicol Chemical Corporation, handling matters related to all corporate activities. Later, he was associate counsel with Hercules Incorporated (a global manufacturer of chemical specialties used in making products for home, office and industrial markets), counseling Hercules on patent matters related to water treatment chemicals, hydrocarbon processing products, rheology modifiers and paper chemicals.

Mr. Hagedorn has experience in all phases of intellectual property litigation over a broad range of technologies, including high barrier specialty packaging films, bulk material handling systems, cardiac marker immunoassays, high speed packaging machinery and electrochemical sensors.

He is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois, in several district courts, before the Seventh and Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal, and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
