Jeffrey G. Muth is a partner in the Litigation Department of Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Grand Rapids, Michigan office. He is a member of the Litigation Department, the Commercial Litigation Practice Group, as well as the Policyholder Insurance Recovery and Counseling Group. Mr. Muth’s practice concentrates on complex commercial cases and product liability disputes. He serves his clients in a wide variety of areas at both the trial and appellate levels in state and federal court, as well as in alternative methods for resolution of disputes outside the courtroom, through negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.
Mr. Muth also serves as a steering committee and faculty member for the Hillman Advocacy Program, a trial advocacy program for young lawyers who practice in the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan. The Program has received national recognition and has the active support and cooperation of the state and federal judiciary in the Western District of Michigan.
Mr. Muth received his B.A. from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich., and earned his J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Muth began the practice of law upon admission to the Illinois bar in 2000 and subsequently was admitted to practice law in Michigan, the Eastern and Western District Courts in Michigan, the Northern District of Illinois and the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan.
Mr. Muth is a member of the Judicial Review Committee for the Grand Rapids Bar Association. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan’s District C Character and Fitness Committee. He also serves on the Managing Partner Diversity Collaborative – a collective of West Michigan law firms, which together with the Grand Rapids Bar Association, are dedicated to increasing the diversity and inclusiveness of the legal practice in West Michigan. In addition, Mr. Muth is the President of the Board of Directors for the Grand Rapids Ballet Company, as well as a member of the Board of Directors for Broadway Grand Rapids.
In 2009, Mr. Muth was selected for inclusion as a Super Lawyers® - Rising Star in the State of Michigan. He is also rated “AV Preeminent” by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, its highest rating.
