About Our Michigan Office
Barnes & Thornburg LLP offers businesses operating in and around the state of Michigan the areas of specialization one expects from a national full-service firm. Clients not only work with our local attorneys, but they receive ready access to the resources and enduring values of one of the largest firms in the United States.
The firm’s Grand Rapids office is comprised of some of Michigan’s most knowledgeable and experienced lawyers who counsel clients in more than 50 practice areas. These areas include Corporate and Real Estate; Litigation; Labor and Employment; Environmental; Finance, Insolvency & Restructuring; and Intellectual Property, to name a few.
In addition to the practice areas listed above, Barnes & Thornburg attorneys counsel clients in a variety of niche areas that span the firm’s broader practices. We understand the nuances and technical aspects of some of these more focused areas. They include:
- Antitrust and Trade Regulation
- Construction Litigation
- Governmental Services and Federal Lobbying
- Import and Export Control
- Insurance Recovery
- White Collar Defense
- Life Sciences
The attorneys in the firm’s Grand Rapids office have strong roots in their local communities, a Barnes & Thornburg tradition that includes providing support to nonprofit organizations in the communities where we work and live. Most of our Grand Rapids attorneys are longtime Michigan residents, and several of them serve in leadership roles at prominent civic and charitable organizations throughout the state, including Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, YMCA, YWCA and West Michigan Legal Aid.
Whether a client’s needs exist right here in Michigan, or take place on a national or international level, Barnes & Thornburg has the talent, resources and commitment to help clients achieve their business objectives.
Grand Rapids Bar Association - Managing Partners Diversity Collaborative
In January 2011, the Grand Rapids Bar Association invited the Managing Partners of medium and large law offices in Grand Rapids, Mich. to join in a discussion of diversity and inclusion in their firms and the Grand Rapids Bar Association. Later that year, the Managing Partners of 12 law offices, along with a representative of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, signed The Managing Partners Diversity Collaborative Agreement and developed a five-year action plan. Barnes & Thornburg is proud to be a part of that group, and we've made the five-year action plan available for download by clicking on the following link: Grand Rapids Bar Association - Managing Partners Diversity Collaborative: Diversity Action Plan.
Celebrating 10 Years in Michigan
Barnes & Thornburg is celebrating for the rest of year by giving back to a community where it has called home for the last 10 years.
On May 21, 2013, the firm hosted a reception in its offices at 171 Monroe to announce its partnership with Burton Elementary School. As part of the celebration, attorneys and staff are helping Burton students and teachers during 2013 with activities inside and outside of the classroom, centered on helping the students grow, play, learn, exercise and be respectful of the world around them.
Home to more than 500 students (K-5), Burton Elementary is a neighborhood school that offers native language and English as a Second Language classes for its diverse group of students. Barnes & Thornburg is proud to partner with Burton and support the school with volunteerism, various gifts in-kind and financial donations.
Not only has the firm valued being a member of the local business community, but it also is proud to have supported community organizations where our attorneys and staff work and live.
Thanks again to Grand Rapids and Michigan for 10 great years and many more to come.
