Amy C. Taber, an associate in Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Minneapolis office and a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Law Department, has been elected to the Minnesota Women Lawyers’ (MWL) board of directors for a two-year term. Taber is one of five MWL members to be appointed to the board.
Taber was elected for the position by the MWL Nominating Committee and its membership at the organization’s 40th Annual Meeting on May 9. MLW President Carrie Daniel Russell appointed members to the MWL Nominating Committee in January 2012, where they were given the responsibility of recommending a slate of candidates to the MWL membership for the 2012-2013 board of directors.
In addition to this new role, Taber has also held a variety of leadership positions in a number of other professional organizations. She is a current member and former co-chair of the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association’s Employment Law Committee, a member of the Twin Cities Human Resource Association’s Legislative Affairs Committee, and a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
Taber’s practice focuses on employment-related matters, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and reasonable accommodations, discrimination and harassment complaints and investigations, retaliation, state and federal wage and hour compliance, discipline and discharge issues, and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). She represents and defends employers, helping obtain favorable decisions against charges of discrimination and retaliation before the Equal Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and state human rights agencies, as well as USERRA charges before the Department of Labor. She also represents and defends employers in state and federal courts.
