Steven P. Inman is of counsel in the San Diego office of Barnes & Thornburg, where he is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department. He counsels clients on commercial litigation matters, including complex insurance coverage matters, insurer bad faith, contract disputes, consumer protection laws, and business torts including unfair competition, breach of fiduciary duty, and consumer fraud.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Inman worked in-house for a travel and resort company and provided counsel regarding insurance, contract, real estate, corporate governance, copyright and trademark, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), construction, and transactional matters, as well as in connection with consumer protection laws such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Do Not Call statutes, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the Vacation Ownership and Timeshare Act. Mr. Inman has deep experience representing clients in insurance coverage claims involving insurer bad faith, intellectual property matters, directors and officers liability, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) matters, employment matters, natural disasters, environmental clean-ups, construction matters, and political risk matters. He also has experience litigating insurance broker malpractice claims, multidistrict intellectual property matters, and contract disputes. He has managed large-scale electronic discovery projects for multi-district patent and antitrust litigation, conducted significant internal investigations involving the SEC, DOJ and OSHA, drafted internal document management and retention policies, reviewed risk management programs and insurance policies, and managed due diligence for corporate transactions and real estate acquisitions.

Mr. Inman was listed as a “Rising Star” in California Super Lawyers from 2012-2014.

He has authored a number of publications on a range of insurance recovery topics, including insurer obligations to policyholders, trademark infringement under advertising injury coverage grants, insurance coverage for patent infringement lawsuits, and political risk coverage.

Mr. Inman earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 2003, where he was a member of the Loyola of Los Angeles Int’l & Comp. Law Review and the St. Thomas More Law Honor Society and received a faculty Academic Scholarship. He received his B.A. in political science, with a minor in Italian, from Brigham Young University in 1999. He is fluent, speaking and writing, in Italian.

He is admitted to practice in the state of California and before the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Southern, and Eastern Districts of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
