Robert W. Sikkel is the managing partner of Barnes & Thornburg's Michigan office. He is also the administrator of the Grand Rapids Labor and Employment Law Department. He has handled labor and employment matters for more than 30 years.

Bob represents employers throughout the country on labor and employment law matters including collective bargaining; grievances and arbitrations; National Labor Relations Board; labor strategies for mergers and acquisitions; EEOC and state agency charges of discrimination; OFCCP matters; hiring, discipline, and termination counseling; FMLA; in-house training for supervisors and managers; and development of union-free strategies and tactics.

Bob has extensive experience working with clients in Michigan and throughout the country to assist them in maintaining their non-union status.

He is a former chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He also is active in the American Bar Association, where he previously served as management co-chair of the Subcommittee on Covenants Not to Compete, Duty of Loyalty, and Trade Secrets. He is a contributing editor for the American Bar Association’s/BNA Covenants Not to Compete: Duty of Loyalty, Trade Secrets and Tortious Interference.

Bob is a frequent author, speaker and trainer on labor and employment issues. He has articles published in the Practical Litigator and HR Advisor.

After graduating from Hope College cum laude, Bob earned his law degree from Indiana University School of Law – Bloomington summa cum laude, where he was the Articles Editor of the Indiana Law Journal.

He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for more than 15 years and Michigan Super Lawyers for several consecutive years. In addition to the "Best Lawyers" honor, Best Lawyers in America has named Bob a 2015 "Lawyer of the Year." Bob is ranked among the top labor and employment lawyers in the state of Michigan in Chambers USA and was inducted as a Fellow in The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.

In addition to being admitted to practice in the state of Michigan, Bob is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.
