Barnes & Thornburg LLP - Paul Jefferson - Attorney - Partner

Paul Jefferson is a partner in the Indianapolis, Indiana office and chair of the firm's Appellate Practice Group. He concentrates his practice in litigation. Mr. Jefferson has experience litigating many types of complex cases including product liability, estate, commercial and governmental matters. In addition, Mr. Jefferson has argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Indiana Court of Appeals. His government litigation practice includes administrative and constitutional law. He teaches Indiana Constitutional Law at Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis.

Mr. Jefferson has experience in all phases of appellate litigation, including briefing, motions and oral argument. He has handled appeals in the Indiana Court of Appeals, the Indiana Supreme Court, the Seventh Circuit, the D.C. Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a co-author of a treatise on Indiana Appellate Law and was selected for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America in the area of Appellate Law.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg LLP, Mr. Jefferson served as a law clerk to Associate Justice Theodore R. Boehm of the Supreme Court of Indiana. In 2002, he received his J.D. magna cum laude from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis where he served on the executive board of the Indiana Law Review and was a member of the Order of Barristers. His Note was published in Volume 35 of the Indiana Law Review. While in law school, Mr. Jefferson received the Harold R. Woodard and Honorable Cale J. Holder Scholarships.

Mr. Jefferson graduated from Wabash College in 1992 with degrees in philosophy and history, and prior to law school worked for several non-profit organizations.

He is admitted to practice in Indiana, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Jefferson is an active member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, where he chaired its appellate practice section; the Indiana State Bar Association; and the American Bar Association.
