Barnes & Thornburg LLP partners Jeanine M. Gozdecki and Lynn C. Tyler were presented with the inaugural Joseph A. Maley Pro Bono Award for their remarkable pro bono efforts throughout their careers.
Gozdecki, an employment and labor attorney in the firm’s South Bend office, was recognized for her contribution to volunteer and nonprofit organizations, including as a former Chair of the Indiana Supreme Court on Continuing Legal Education and former president of the St. Joseph County Bar Association. Today, Ms. Gozdecki serves on several boards in the South Bend community, including the South Bend Museum of Art, and on the the St. Joseph Catholic Church Pastoral Council. Ms. Gozdecki also has long-provided significant behind-the-scenes legal services for several local nonprofit organizations that enrich the community in the arts, education, religion, elderly services, and health care.
Tyler, an intellectual property attorney in the firm’s Indianapolis office, is a co-founder, past president, and volunteer for the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic (NCLC). In 2002, he received the Indianapolis Bar Association's Pro Bono Award for his work on behalf of the NCLC. In addition, he is past chairman of the Indianapolis Civic Theatre (1999-2002), and a member of United Way's Tocqueville Society.
Last year Barnes & Thornburg established the Joseph A. Maley Pro Bono Award to recognize those in the firm who have made extraordinary efforts in the pro bono area. The award was established in memory of firm attorney John R. Maley’s oldest son, Joseph, who passed away in 2008. The family also started the Joseph Maley Foundation (www.josephmaley.org) to serve children of all abilities in Joseph's honor.
