WASHINGTON – Former Pillsbury Counsel Christine Hoeft McCarthy is joining Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Washington, D.C., office. She is of counsel in the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. While at Pillsbury, McCarthy built a broad-based intellectual property practice and facilitated junior attorney training directed toward improving efficiency for clients.

Ms. McCarthy’s practice covers a spectrum of intellectual property matters, including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, Internet law, copyright and patent licensing, and export control review. She received her undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from New Mexico State University in 1993, with a focus on the science option and with minors in environmental engineering and physics. Ms. McCarthy earned her law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1996 and received her intellectual property and licensing advanced certificates from Franklin Pierce Law Center. She is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the courts of the District of Columbia and Virginia.

Outside of her practice, Ms. McCarthy publishes and speaks regularly on intellectual property related subjects to various societies and interested business groups. She also authored the technical paper entitled “Measured Surface Transfer Impedance of Ferromagnetic Pipes and Conduit,” which was presented at the 1988 NEM Conference along with L.O. Hoeft and J.S. Hofstra.
