Matthew J. Agnew is a healthcare operations, investigations, and dispute resolution attorney in Barnes & Thornburg’s Dallas office. He assists clients with navigating the complex healthcare regulatory landscape with a focus on practical and timely business solutions.

He counsels clients in a variety of areas of healthcare law, including general regulatory compliance, Office of Inspector General and Department of Justice investigations, Stark Law, state and federal anti-kickback statutes, False Claims Act investigations, HIPAA, audits, payer-provider billing disputes, reimbursement and overpayment issues, and mergers, acquisitions, and joint-venture transactions.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Mr. Agnew worked for one of the largest healthcare law firms in the United States, where he represented clients throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. He has represented hospitals, pharmacies, durable medical equipment suppliers, laboratories, physicians, and other healthcare providers in fraud and abuse compliance matters, government and third-party investigations, payments issues, and healthcare business transactions.

He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Health Law Section of the American Bar Association, and the State Bar of Texas. He also is the recipient of the 2017 Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (DAYL) Outstanding Committee Chair Award for his leadership on DAYL’s Lawyers Against Domestic Violence Committee.

He earned his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law and a B.A. from Wichita State University.

He is admitted to practice in the state of Texas and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

Matthew enjoys spending his free time with his wonderful wife, Brandi, and their four dogs, and in the outdoors.
