Lydia Barbash-Riley is an associate in the Grand Rapids office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP and a member of the Environmental Law Department.

Ms. Barbash-Riley received her J.D., cum laude, from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington. She was a summer associate with Barnes & Thornburg prior to joining the firm full time. During law school, she was an intern with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Office of General Counsel International Section and the Conservation Law Center. Additionally, she was the editor-in-chief of the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies, vice president of outreach and representative on the Student Sustainability Council for the Environmental Law Society, and a research assistant in the area of natural resources law. Ms. Barbash-Riley also earned her Master of Public Affairs in environmental policy and natural resource management from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs. She received her B.A. in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with honors in the liberal arts.

Prior to law school, Ms. Barbash-Riley served in the United States Peace Corps, Environmental Sector, in the Dominican Republic. She is proficient in Spanish.

Ms. Barbash-Riley is admitted to practice in the state of Michigan and before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.
