Jordan S. Weinstein is a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Washington, D.C., office and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department.

Mr. Weinstein focuses his practice on counseling, licensing and litigation in U.S. and international trademark, copyright, unfair competition, advertising, Internet and high-technology matters. His clients span numerous industries, including retail, food, public relations/marketing, restaurants, clothing, sports and recreation, electronics, software, jewelry and satellite systems.


  • Represents Fortune-50 and Fortune-500 companies in the food industry in brand development, product/packaging clearance, advertising review, clearance and disputes, and related licensing, litigation and counseling
  • Counsels transnational public relations and marketing firm with cutting-edge marketing campaign issues, including print, broadcast, event and internet/social media issues
  • Represents designers and manufacturers in the jewelry, fashion and accessories industries
  • Serves as a Panelist (arbitrator) on domain name dispute resolution issues in the .com, .net and .org namespace

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Mr. Weinstein served as a partner at Oblon Spivak McClelland Maier & Neustadt, LLP. He assisted clients with domestic and international trademark and copyright registration, including protection for color, trade dress, and design; trademark and copyright search and clearance; advertising/promotional campaign review, licensing agreements for patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets; intellectual property portfolio acquisition, due diligence and management; and all aspects of intellectual property litigation from inception through settlement, trial, and appeal.

Mr. Weinstein is a member of the International Trademark Association's Editorial Board for the Trademark Reporter and was co-chair of the Association's Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.; former co-chair of the American Bar Association's Trademarks and the Internet Committee; a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association's Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section; and was a member of the former Federal American Inn of Court, where he served as President, Master of the Bench and program committee chair. Mr. Weinstein has been selected by Euromoney IP as an IP Star for 2015.

Mr. Weinstein earned his J.D. from American University in 1983 and his B.S. from Pennsylvania State University in 1979.

Mr. Weinstein is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and numerous Federal District and Appellate courts.
