Jerry Gallagher is a partner in the South Bend, Indiana office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP, where he is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. Mr. Gallagher is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and focuses his practice on obtaining, exploiting and enforcing intellectual property rights in a wide variety of technology fields, including the recreational vehicle, consumer products, hardware, automotive, injection molding, welding, orthotic, materials handling, healthcare and corrugated paperboard industries.

Mr. Gallagher counsels clients with respect to U.S. and international patent protection, patent licensing and other portfolio management issues. He advises clients on infringement and validity issues, including designing around competitors’ patents and conducting freedom to operate analyses.

Mr. Gallagher also represents clients in trademark matters, including clearing and registering marks, licensing, portfolio management and international trademark enforcement and anti-counterfeiting matters. He has represented numerous clients in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

Mr. Gallagher received his B.S. in metallurgical engineering in 1989 from the University of Notre Dame. He earned his J.D. cum laude in 1992 from the University of Notre Dame Law School, where he was lead articles editor of the Notre Dame Law Review.

Mr. Gallagher is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana, before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Seventh and Federal Circuits, and before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.
