Garrett S. Llewellyn is of counsel in the Los Angeles office of Barnes & Thornburg, where he is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department. He counsels clients on complex commercial litigation matters, including disputes associated with breach of contract, unfair competition and similar business torts, breach of fiduciary duty, and consumer fraud.

His clients have included asset management companies, hedge funds, national and international corporations, hotels, and individuals. Mr. Llewellyn assists clients through virtually all stages of the civil litigation process in both state and federal courts. This includes managing discovery, preparing witnesses, taking depositions, drafting and delivering dispositive motions, opposing class certification, working assessing damages and valuation, interviewing experts, and trial preparation.

Mr. Llewellyn’s recent engagements and accomplishments include the following:

  • Prevailed at trial and recovered substantial attorneys’ fees and costs on behalf of an international hedge fund in a $500 million breach of contract and defamation dispute
  • Obtained summary judgment and defeated class certification on behalf of a national veterinary hospital chain in a $40 million nationwide consumer fraud class action arising out of labeling and sales
  • Represented a luxury hotel owner in an eight-year dispute against a well-known luxury hotel management company in a $300 million breach of contract and tort case involving a hotel management agreement
  • Resolved a Telephone Consumer Protection Act class action on behalf of a home furnishings retailer after persuading plaintiff’s counsel to voluntarily dismiss the case with prejudice
  • Represented a high-value asset management company in a $100 million dispute surrounding the collection and payment of dividends
  • Represented several corporations and related entities against a $500 million False Claims Act case advanced by the United States
  • Represented a National Football League team with respect to several insurance disputes surrounding coverage for multiple tort claims in excess of $30 million

Mr. Llewellyn was named to the Rising Stars list from 2016-2018 by Southern California Super Lawyers.

Mr. Llewellyn earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Pepperdine University, where he was a member of the Pepperdine Law Review and the Order of the Coif. He received his B.A., summa cum laude, with honors in political science from San Diego State University in 2005.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Mr. Llewellyn was a counsel in the Los Angeles office of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.

He is admitted to practice in the state of California and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and before the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Eastern, Northern, and Southern Districts of California.
