Dawn T. Collins is a partner in Barnes & Thornburg Los Angeles office. As a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment Department, Ms. Collins has 20 years of experience defending corporations and their management in a variety of employment-related legal matters.

She counsels clients in high-stakes wage and hour class actions alleging violations of federal and California wage and hour laws. Additionally, Ms. Collins defends clients against harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination and retaliation cases in state and federal courts, arbitration as well as administrative hearings.

Ms. Collins also counsels clients on the particular nuances of California employment regulations with an emphasis on litigation avoidance. Ms. Collins regularly conducts workplace investigations, and advises clients on issues related to discharge and discipline, leaves, reduction in force, employment agreements, and wage and hour compliance.

She has received numerous honors and awards in the legal profession, including Acritas Star (2018), Southern California Super Lawyers (2014-present) and Super Lawyers Rising Star (2006).

In the legal community, she is a member of the California Bar Foundation, Constitutional Rights Foundation, Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, National Bar Association and Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Ms. Collins earned her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, where she was editor of the National Black Law Journal, and a bachelor’s degree from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

She is admitted to practice in the state of California and before the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Southern and Northern Districts of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
