Christine Skoczylas is a partner in the Chicago office of Barnes & Thornburg and a member of the firm’s Litigation Department and Co-Chair of the Commercial Litigation Practice Group. She is also a member of the Insurance Recovery and Counseling Practice Group. She concentrates her practice on resolving corporate and business disputes and has represented clients in a wide range of state and federal litigation, class action litigation, arbitration, and appellate matters, including breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, and tort actions, products liability cases, environmental contamination cases, and complex contract disputes. Ms. Skoczylas’s clients come from diverse industries nationwide, including hotel, restaurant and hospitality, hair care and cosmetics, petrochemical, and manufacturing. Her recent trial experience includes obtaining a substantial judgment, with punitive damages, for a plaintiff in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Ms. Skoczylas earned her B.S., magna cum laude, in biological sciences from DePaul University and her M.S. in neurobiology from the University of Chicago. She earned her J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law, where she was a Note and Comment Development Editor of the Northwestern University Law Review.

Prior to her legal career, Ms. Skoczylas worked as a research biologist, with a specific focus on cancer biology and neurobiology. She is experienced in a wide array of cutting-edge scientific techniques and has been intimately involved in designing and implementing new protocols and procedures in the laboratory. Ms. Skoczylas has published four articles in leading scientific journals, including a review of the molecular mechanisms involved in virally induced mesothelioma.

In addition to being admitted to practice in the state of Illinois, Ms. Skoczylas is admitted before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Central and Southern Districts of Illinois, the Northern Districts of Illinois (including the Trial Bar), the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
